Reiki – Distance vs. In-Person: Which Works Better?

Is “in-person” Reiki more effective than distant healing?

When it comes to Reiki, the question of whether in-person sessions are more effective than distant healing often sparks debate. Some practitioners argue that distant healing is just as effective as hands-on sessions, while others claim that distance Reiki has its advantages. They suggest that without external distractions, the energy can go straight to the recipient. On the other hand, there are those who believe that distant Reiki, especially distance attunements, can’t match the power of in-person practice.

To address this, I’d like to offer some insights based on two key principles:

  1. Reiki is a Universal Life Force Energy
Reiki is not limited by physical boundaries or location. It is an intelligent energy that flows to where it is needed most. Whether it’s given in person or at a distance, the energy knows where to go and how to support the recipient.
  2. Reiki Distance Healing is a Recognized Practice
When learning Reiki, particularly at the second level, we are taught how to send Reiki remotely using the distance symbol. This ability is embedded in the training and shows that distance Reiki is not only possible but an integral part of the practice.

Some practitioners who challenge the effectiveness of distant Reiki may inadvertently contradict these principles. If Reiki is a limitless and intelligent energy, then why place limits on how it can be transmitted, especially when we are already taught the methods for distant healing in our training?

A Few Clarifications

It’s important to understand that Reiki is never “sent” by the practitioner; rather, the practitioner acts as a conduit for the energy. The energy flows through the practitioner, who simply channels it to the recipient. Practitioners don’t use their own energy when performing Reiki—rather, the energy flows through them. This is why Reiki practitioners don’t feel drained or depleted; they are simply channels through which healing energy flows. In fact, Reiki practitioners often experience healing themselves while they channel the energy.

Conclusion: Reiki Is a Divine Gift

Reiki, at its core, is a universal life force energy—a gift from a higher power. While I personally strive to avoid judging others, it can be difficult for me to accept when practices like Reiki are trademarked or patented, especially when it is something that should be freely available to everyone. That being said, I understand the need to respect the efforts and time invested by individuals who have dedicated themselves to mastering this healing art.

To wrap up, whether Reiki is transmitted in-person or remotely, the results are the same. Distance does not impact the effectiveness of Reiki. The energy flows instantaneously and simultaneously, proving that its efficiency is not bound by physical proximity.

In the end, the most important thing is not where or how Reiki is given, but the intention behind it and the openness of both the practitioner and the recipient. Reiki is a powerful tool for healing, and its potential remains limitless, regardless of how it is transmitted.
